May is Melanoma Awareness Month!

May is #MelanomaAwarenessMonth and with skin cancer now being the most common form of cancer IN THE WORLD we all need to be more aware!Let’s educate on how to protect ourselves and our loved ones, how to practice good sun safety, as well as knowing the signs to look out for that could result in early detection.

Causes Over exposing your skin to the sun, including sun beds are the main causes of skin cancers. However factors such as a those listed below can increase your risk: 
– Family history of skin cancer
– Fair or red hair
– Pale skin that burns easily– A large number or moles or freckles – Taking medications that suppress the immune system. 
Practising good sun safely is the best way to protect yourself: 
– Wear a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA & UVB rays. Minimum of factor 30 folks!– Avoid using sun beds at all costs! If you love having a permanent tan then invest in a good self tan, your skin will thank you for it in the years to come! – Limit your time spent in the sunshine, avoiding the hottest part of the day. – Know your ABCDEs! Early detection is absolutely key, check your skin regularly for any changes. If you’re concerned about any changes to skin lesions or moles consult your doctor ASAP 👩‍⚕️
